It's getting to be a long winter in Seattle. Between October 1st and March 1st we've seen the most rain in Seattle history. The ingesting of heavy, dark beers continues. But a little light at the end of the tunnel was revealed with Urban Family's delightful mix of sour complexities and dark roasty foundation.
Black Lemons: are in fact not lemons - but sun dried limes. Common in Middle Eastern cuisine, they are also referred to as loomi. They have a tangy and earthy flavor, complimentary to the Colombian arabica essence in this ale.
Urban Family Brewing // Citron Noir Dark Farmhouse Ale brewed with back lemons // Seattle, WA // 6.8 ABV
Color: Deep amber brown with discernible cream bubbles and a retentive head.
Smell: Bright and sour nose with notes of citrus and green grass.
Taste: The mouthfeel is like cold brew on nitro - bold but tingly and slightly astringent on the tongue. Grassy sourness and dreams of summer lemon groves are contrasted with dark cherry note and smooths out to a dark roast coffee.
Overall: The springy sourness is compliment to the rich coffee backbone. Like the promise of spring in a long, dark winter.
Music Pairing: Harlem Nocturne - Quincy Jones et al
