Lagunitas Brewing // Maximus IIPA // Petaluma, CA // 8.2% ABV // 59 IBU
A recent trip to Northern California had me break the whole "a PNW beer blog" theme because well, it's Lagunitas. This brewery holds close to my heart as its located in my hometown of Petaluma, CA. Sunshine, live music, and San Francisco Giants fans filled the beer garden with a warm glow of nostalgia. Lagunitas will always be a favorite because it reminds me of my roots and where I first fell in love with craft beer and the community surrounding it.
Color: Honey, copper
Smell: Weed, pine, fresh hops
Taste: The hops are well balanced with the malt, making it mellow for a double IPA while still retaining freshness. The pine and resin characteristics of the hops is a nice change of hop profile from the Seattle area. A good reminder of the Nor Cal brewing style.
Overall: They keep it classic as The Maximus is the original Lagunitas IPA, just doubled up! In California you do a lot of drinking in the sunshine. Lagunitas has mastered the drinkable double that doesn't weigh you down in the good weather.
