Hop Valley Brewing // Operation Vacation Extra Pale Ale (APA) // Eugene, OR 5.50% ABV // 30 IBU
Hop Valley is killin it again! They are becoming one of my favorite Oregon craft breweries. It's officially Spring in Seattle and lighter, summer beers are now in rotation. It's finally time for balcony beers! I know a couple posts back I refereed to Pale Ales as boring.. but the Pacific Northwest brewing culture continues to surprise me with ingenious brewing styles.
Color: Beautiful, solid amber. Perfect for a pale!
Smell: Slight tropical and pine hop aroma.
Taste: Amazing drinkabilty with hop flavors! Its not as complex as an IPA but also not as heavy. It ends dry and crisp. I love the concept of brewing pales with extra hops. It' just what I need when I don't want a high ABV or IBU.
Overall: It's perfect for when you want a drink in the afternoon or on a hot day but don't want to sacrifice hop quality. The label reads "Formulated for a short or extended day-to-day activity". Couldn't have said it better myself.
