Hop Valley Brewing // Alpha Centauri Binary IPA // Eugene, OR 9.00% ABV // 100 IBU
Just to make it clear to everyone, I love IPAs. It's my favorite brewing style and basically whenever I have one I love it so yes this is absolutely biased but hey, it's that what a blog is supposed to be? But guys-this IPA is the shit. It's so balanced and refreshing, I could drink it all day. As you can see I couldn't stop drinking it even to take a picture.
Color: Basically, exactly what you want your modern, Pacific North West IPA to look like.
Smell: Citrus and pine. Like you're camping with your best friends in summer.
Mouthfeel: Medium heaviness and medium carbonation.
Taste: This is a double IPA. So at a 9% beer, it's on the stronger side. But the master of this brew is in how drinkable it is for a dub IPA. The hop bitterness does last a while on the palate but it's subtle. In other words, a great after taste that doesn't leave you needing to rinse your mouth out with Listerine. In fact, it should be doing the opposite. The malts to hops balance is perfection. And I know they say IPAs ruin your palate and make you taste less but honestly, Alpha Centauri is a carefully crafted beer that, even with a high ABV, is focused on the flavors.
Overall: A perfect Imperial India Pale Ale.
