Figurehead Brewing // Imperial Milk Stout // Seattle, WA // 8.4% ABV
It took a sign right off the Ballard bridge for me to realize how close this old world style brewery was to my apartment. And on the day I was finally able to go in, they had a new release for their award-winning milk stout.
What is a milk stout? A stout with more unfermentable sugars, in this case lactose, that brings more body and sweetness to the flavor profile. This aids in counteracting the roasted flavor from the malt.
Color: Black with a dark tan, full head.
Smell: Slightly roasty with a sweet malt aroma
Taste: Boozy with hints of dark fruit, smooth and not overly sweet. Although the sweetness is highlighted without overpowering the profile.
Overall: Like sweet cream wrapped in dark roasted fruit. Incredibly smooth with a great balance of roasted malt, hops, and sweetness.
