Ecliptic Brewing // India Style Wheat Ale // Portland, OR 6.80% ABV // 70 IBU
As someone who doesn't normally drink wheat ales (technically this is an IPA but it's brewed with wheat) I've been about them this Spring! I was attracted to the Canopus 1. for the name 2. because HOPS duh 3. Ecliptic has established themselves as brewery who takes risks in the craft brew world.
Color: Cloudy, light amber. Somewhat dark for a wheat.
Smell: Citrus and herby.
Taste: Dry hopped flavor right up front! I love that because it's so unexpected from a wheat ale. A bit weedy (as the name alludes) with orange flavors and a crisp, dry finish. Which is crazy because did you see the ABV and IBU?
Overall: FUCK YEAH this is what craft brewing is about. I love the idea of crossing unsuspected flavors in traditional styles. And come on, how PNW of Ecliptic to be like, "You know what would make a wheat ale better? Hops". You're damn right it does.
