Breakside Brewery // Fortunella Witbier // Portland, OR 6.00% ABV // 20 IBU
I usually stick to my hops and typical PNW style of brewing. But I was happy to find a Belgian Style Witbier made in Portland. And it looked just perfect for the Spring season. And unlike most wits that are fermented with orange peels, the Fotunella ferments with whole kumquats!
Color: Hazy straw.
Smell: Citrus and coriander.
Taste: Fruity, flowery and light. A bit peppery and herby but mostly just a tang of citrus. The label describes it as an "Ale with kumquats, coriander, and chamomile". It follows the basic recipe of a wit but still is unique in it's brewing style.
Overall: Flavors are delicately present, like the way budding flowers fill the Spring air. Perfect for weekday porch parties. Also, this purchase may or may not have been driven by the adorable label. Turns out Breakside has good taste in art and brewing.
