L'Ecole No. 41 // 2012 Estate Syrah // Walla Walla, WA // 91 points // 15% ABV
I bought this bottle of wine while on a best friend excursion in Walla Walla back in October 2015. We've been waiting for the perfect day to drink it together as it's not every day broke 20-something year olds can bust out a $37 bottle of wine. A delightfully warm June day along the Puget Sound turned out to be a perfect pairing with this Syrah.
Smell: Plum, honeysuckle, jasmine, herb garden
Taste: A medium-heavy body, juicy, ripe stone fruits, peppery arugula, with a semi dry finish of slick honey sweetness.
Overall: A surprise for a syrah! Heavier than most and bursting with early summer flavors. The bright herbaceous sensations matched with ripe stone fruit makes this great for drinking along the river or sound.
Pairing Tip: Munch on baguette dipped in lemongrass/mint balsamic vinegar or early season plums and blueberries.
